BENCHMARKING
Benchmarking is an anglicized, in the science of business management can be defined as a systematic and continuous process to benchmark products, services and work processes in organizations. It involves taking "comparators" or benchmarks to products, services and work processes that belong to organizations that demonstrate best practices in the area of interest, in order to transfer knowledge of best practices and implementation.
The Benchmark is also a continuous process of measuring products, services and practices against toughest competitors or those companies recognized as industry leaders.
The importance of benchmarking is not in the detailed mechanics of the comparison, but the impact that these comparisons can have on behavior. It can be considered as a useful process in order to effect the necessary impetus for improvements and changes.
This continuous process of comparing activities, both in the same organization as other companies, has to find the best, and then try to copy the activity generating the highest possible added value.
